Darland Construction Co. has been awarded the construction management of an
enterprise-class, Tier IV data center in Papillion, Nebraska. Midlands Data
Center is a joint venture between Alegent Health and CoSentry, both of Omaha
and will be located on Alegent Health.s Midlands Hospital campus.
Construction began on the fast-track project in January.
Alegent Health is the region.s largest healthcare provider and CoSentry is a
regional data center operator, providing business resiliency solutions at
locations in Omaha, Kansas City and Sioux City.
Midlands Data Center will store Alegent Health.s electronic medical records,
digital imaging for cardiology and radiology, along with data and equipment
of other CoSentry clients. The secure facility will provide reliability and
access to records in the event of a power outage or natural disaster. It
will utilize advanced concept designs for power, cooling and network and
security infrastructures.
The data center building itself will be comprised of two 25,000 SF levels.
Each level will accommodate two 5,000 SF raised floor data suites. In
addition to the data suites and required support space, the Midlands Data
Center will house approximately 13,000 SF of support staff offices. The
facility will also include a secured equipment yard and dual functioning
loading docks. The building will be constructed of steel and precast
concrete walls and roof, making it a hardened facility able to withstand 250
mph winds.

Morrissey Engineering rounds out the project team, providing mechanical,
electrical and technology engineering to the project. The project is on
schedule for delivery to the owners this fall.
