The expansion at Immanuel Medical Center incorporated renovations and additions to the emergency, physical therapy, and imaging/oncology departments and were completed within an active hospital setting. Alegent Health contracted with a large national construction manager that relied on local Omaha contractors to perform specific packages of work in this expansion. Darland was selected by Alegent and the construction manager to perform the General Works package for the project.
As General Works contractor, Darland was responsible for a wide range of construction services from site/civil improvements; to footings, foundations, and slabs; as well as framing, drywall, doors, hardware, millwork, and equipment installation.
“Darland has played an integral role in the upgrade and modernization of Immanuel,” states Mark Sommer, Alegent senior project manager. “They have effectively managed key components of the renovations to our emergency, rehabilitation, and imaging/oncology departments.
“What I really appreciate about Darland,” Sommer continues, “is their ability to work in and around active healthcare facilities. They are very conscious of how their work impacts our staff and patients, and make adjustments accordingly. Plus, I can really count on Darland to handle the details. They are very proactive, both on getting work done and in their communication style. It makes my job much easier.”
Crucial to the success of any hospital renovation or expansion project is the ability to implement effective safety controls to protect hospital patients and staff. Bill Vandenberg, Darland project manager noted, “We are extremely conscious of infection control issues, monitoring noise levels, and critical systems operations. Our dedication to safety and patient well-being has earned us an ongoing relationship with Alegent and with other healthcare clients.”
The 3-year Immanuel Medical Center Expansion project was completed in 2010.
