Huber Hummer

Out of over 5,000 General Motors dealers, Omaha car dealer Ron Huber was one of only 150 selected to represent the new Hummer family line of sport utility vehicles. General Motors provided the dealerships with prototype drawings of the building and site and gave them a deadline to build the new facilities. Huber hired Reed Design Architects of Omaha to complete the plans and Darland to construct the facility which included a showroom, sales offices, service bays and auto wash facility.

The distinctiveness of the Hummer vehicles called for a unique facility. The most dominating features of the building are the curved steel roof and it’s massive stainless steel “H” adorning the front of the building. The project plans and specifications left much of the detailing and connections up to the builder. Utilizing over 50 years of design-build experience, Darland met the challenges while maintaining Huber's strict schedule.

In addition to the new dealership, Darland renovated over 30,000 square feet of parking lot that included Hummer test track. This project was the first of its kind for Darland. The track consisted of seven different obstacles designed to show off the Hummer’s capabilities. Each obstacles had to meet strict performance requirements set by Hummer.
