First United Methodist Church

Darland was hired prior to design as a construction manager to work hand in hand with the owner and architect in the remodel of First United Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska. The project included a broad scope of interior and exterior renovations. The renovated area included the fellowship hall, relocation of a new kitchen, new mechanical systems, adding an elevator lift, upgrading the education wing, new washroom facilities and providing a more functional entrance and parking area to the east side of the facility.

Barbara Bredthauer, the First United Methodist Church Chair, Building Committee said “The project team was amazing! Alan Walters did a great job estimating costs and presenting various options that would fit our budget. Throughout the entire process, both Adam Simpson and Scott Remington brought invaluable expertise and patience to the project. Renovating our mid-century building was complex and confronted with numerous surprises, Adam and Scott helped us work through them, always mindful of cost and building integrity. There were times when a church function or a funeral would interrupt the planned construction schedule, and Adam and Scott always adapted to those unforeseen events with great spirit, delivering the completion of the project on schedule. Their leadership, construction expertise, honesty, and integrity were key to the transformation of our building.”

Adam Simpson, the project manager for Darland on the project said: “We ran into several unknown structural systems, but it was much easier to manage because of the careful advanced planning with the entire team and the consistent owner review meetings.”
