About the Project
Darland Construction partnered with Food Bank for the Heartland to build their new, nearly 105,000-square-foot packing and distribution center, delivering the project on time. The state-of-the-art facility features a Butler pre-engineered metal building and replaced the organization’s previous location, which it had outgrown due to a significant increase in demand for emergency food assistance.
The completed facility offers expanded cold storage capabilities and a significantly larger Protein Repack Room, increasing capacity to 4,300 square feet—a 514 percent increase over the previous space. This expansion has enhanced the Food Bank’s ability to serve 93 counties in Nebraska and western Iowa and positioned it as a regional protein partner, enabling it to provide services to other food banks in the area.
The new building is more than 40 percent larger than the former facility, providing increased space for volunteers to efficiently repackage food donations. The expanded parking lot now accommodates the large number of volunteers who contribute their time each week to support the Food Bank’s mission.
Darland Construction was proud to partner with Food Bank for the Heartland on this critical project and contribute to building a stronger and more resilient community.
